Climbing Pico Mountain<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pico Mountain is the highest point in Portugal and the third highest in the Atlantic, with 2,351 meters of altitude, and is part of a natural reserve whose goal is the preservation and conservation of its entire environmental area.<\/p>\n

This is, without a doubt, one of the places you must visit in Pico Island and it is here where you will see one of the most breathtaking views in your life!<\/p>\n

Along the way there are 47 wooden landmarks. The last landmark is located inside the crater and indicates the trail to Piquinho.<\/p>\n

In case of fog, you can quickly lose sight of the landmarks, so you should double your attention to avoid getting lost.<\/p>\n

Trails \u2013 Lagoa do Capit\u00e3o<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lagoa do Capit\u00e3o is located in S\u00e3o Roque do Pico, on Pico Island. It is the biggest lagoon on the island and is one of the most beautiful landscapes on Pico. It is surrounded by a lush green landscape and has the Pico Mountain as a backdrop. Lagoa do Capit\u00e3o is a place of true peace and tranquility and is therefore very popular, attracting many tourists throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Gruta das Torres <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gruta das Torres Visitor’s Center is an example of the sustainable use of a natural resource for recreational and environmental awareness purposes, as the visit does not disturb its natural elements.<\/p>\n

The Gruta das Torres is the largest lava tube in Portugal, with a length of 5150 meters, forming part of the formation of Lajidos \u2013 Gruta das Torres, inserted in the Mountain Volcanic Complex. It is estimated that it was formed about 1500 years ago during an eruption originating in Cabe\u00e7o Bravo.<\/p>\n

The visit is the first one of its kind in Portugal, following the cavity over 450 meters and the visit lasts\u00a0 approximately one hour.<\/p>\n

Tasting the fish and seafood<\/strong><\/p>\n

Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Pico Island is one of the best places to try fresh fish and seafood in Portugal!<\/p>\n

Azorean cuisine is highly appreciated by all who visit us and Pico is no exception. You can’t miss the tuna, octopus, limpets, barnacles or cavaco. These can be eaten grilled, in stews or in soups. The fish and seafood from the Azores is to die for.<\/p>\n

Visit the wine routes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2004, the Cultural Landscape of Vinha do Pico covers a total area of 987ha and a buffer zone with 1,924ha, partially covers the north and south coasts, and the west coast of Pico, all surrounded by an extremely rich fauna and flora, with several species and endemic and rare communities, within an area of permanent protection.<\/p>\n

You can visit places that preserve, to this day, all the secular identity associated with wine culture, one of the most important on the island, and also have the opportunity to taste the best wines produced in the region.<\/p>\n
